Goalz

One day… I will dare to pay this price. Nobu at Caesars Palace.

Breakfast in bed

Nothing more glorious than room service breakfast. Except when it is free.  I was also impressed by the royal sized butter pat. It was the size of 2-3 normal rectangular pats. Plenty enough to butter 2 slices of sourdough bread. Bravo, Venetian.

Jaleo (Cosmopolitan Hotel, Las Vegas)

Spanish tapas tonight at Jaleo. While some of them very good, it hasn’t displaced Costa Brava in San Diego from its #1 spot in our hearts. The restaurant scene is loud and trendy on the 3rd floor of the Cosmopolitan. We had to try the Sangria, one of our favorite drinks. It had an herbal or cinnamon overtone that was...

Ivanpah Solar Power Facility

Interesting Wikipedia article describing this 400MW facility. Natural gas is used to power the plant thus this facility is a greenhouse gas producer; however the power output per unit of natural gas consumed is 4x higher than of traditional natural gas power plants. Sadly, the intense reflections off the mirrors fry approximately 3500 birds annually. Note also the 2 solar...

What is that thing? Victorville Landfill Solar Array

Out on the edge of Victorville is an interesting structure that I learned is a Sanitary Landfill. It’s oddly placed – right at the edge of the freeway rather than behind one of the hills. Maybe BLM wouldn’t allow this and thus they could only build on county land that was fronting the freeway. Even more interesting is the fact...

Waba Grill (Temecula)

The definition of the word Cruciferous is “bits stuck between your teeth.” Waba Grill’s Kale Salad is not too bad. The Kale is chopped into small pieces which  makes it easy to eat (why can’t they do that with broccoli) but the cabbage slivers were too big/long and were a little brown on the edges. The Salmon was fresh but...

North Park Produce, and Luna Grill

We have had  a lot of kabob this week! North Park Produce in Poway has just opened a kabob shop attached to their grocery. And it is conveniently located just down from Ozzie’s when Ms S takes her music lessons. I think the food keeps getting better and better. Their chicken kabob is delicious but the real star is the...

Rancho Santa Fe farmers market

Our favorite Sunday morning destination. We love the French bakery and Spanish paella stands and today Samantha tried the Italian place. Check out the egg/bacon/mushroom crepe; the Jamón  and Manchego bocadillo; and Penne with meat sauce. We live the tables and chairs at this farmers market. Today the live music was provided by a one-man steel drum band.

Savory Thai restaurant (Oceanside, CA)

Ms S found this gem in Google Maps for us. We tested their Chicken skewers, Larb Kai, Spicy Noodles, and Thai Chili Paste Fried Rice. Ms S ate hers so fast we didn’t get a picture. The spicy noodles were excellently fragrant and spicy. The fried rice was also complex, spicy, and tasty. A local family run joint that has...

Surfin’ Chicken Grill (San Clemente)

Chicken Tacos Can you see the corn tortillas? We couldn’t! Fresh chicken, cooked yesterday (we saw him pull it out of the bin), tasted homemade (i.e. not enough salt). A lot of food on a plate. Mr A thought it was bland. But it would be good for kids. Red Snapper Tacos Delicious. Lots of fish. Again a huge portion....

Yakyudori (Kearney Mesa)

– Poke! – Skewers grilled over charcoal with delicious chargrilled flavor! – Miso ramen (sorry no picture) – Our favorite sake brands (Kikusui, Karatamba, Hatsumago) – Laid back “down low” Japanese diner feel – check the front counter held up by milk crates, yeah! And crazy art on the wall! What’s not to love?? And it’s open until 3am. Mr...

Tasty Noodle House (Kearney Mesa)

We thought we’d give Spicy City a break and try this place again. Tasty Noodle House is already very popular but it was recently featured in AAA ‘s WestWays magazine, so we feared a tsunami of guests. We arrived right before opening and scored the corner table. As we were afraid of, 20 minutes later, all tables were full and...

Through the looking glass (Be Our Guest Restaurant, Magic Kingdom)

Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there lived a young prince in a shining castle… At the Be Your Guest Restaurant, guests may take their meals in the central ballroom, the library, or the dark and foreboding west wing. Look outside the window of the main ballroom, it’s snowing! The Beast works hard to break the spell of...

The taste of expectations exceeded (Boma, Animal Kingdom Resort)

Boma is one of our favorite restaurants at Walt Disney world. I had forgotten just how exceptional it is and tonight Boma was firing on all cylinders. For starters (and because it is a family restaurant) it serves up all its meats totally plain. Beef, chicken, and turkey sliced off the bone and perfectly cooked. Then it seduces you with...

Morimotos Asia (Disney Springs, Orlando)

Morimotos has one impressive dining room. They tried to seat us upstairs behind some shutters but we wanted to be part of the action! So we made them seat us downstairs. We started with a delicious dry Sake, Hawk in the Heavens. We had spied this on our way upstairs – the famous Tuna Pizza: The tuna was good quality,...

Christmas dinner at Roy’s Anaheim Gardenwalk

Cook on Christmas? Forget that! Fortunately there’s a Roy’s near my Mom’s. Lobster potstickers… So glad these were on the abbreviated menu. Grilled ceasar salad. Not as good as the tableside Ceasar at Romeo y Juliet in Cabo… Cry. Beautiful Ribeye. Mr A had the Chateaubriand and we split both. The Chateaubriand slices incorrectly came out rare and was sent...

The Hat (Brea)

How much do we love Mr A? So much that we took him to The Hat. Order of onion rings. Against our better judgement. (You know, that is a great name for a blog.) Crispy, and onions were tender. Pastrami sandwich. What we came here for.

Milk Tea Tales.

One of our new food finds of 2016 is Taiwanese milk tea. Strong, fragrant, and refreshing. There are many milk tea makers, but few that used brewed tea, opting instead for powdered mix. I am not sure Lollicup brews the tea but their Milk Tea is definitely in the top 10 percent (shout out to our #1 Tea Station). Today...

Din Tai Fung (Santa Anita mall)

This DTF is so gorgeous inside. It’s my favorite now. Everyone else’s, too. The XLB chefs are hard at work. The Xiao Long Bao here are meaty, fresh, and juicy. And no begging for ginger and vinegar here. The pork and veggie dumplings are good too. Lots of green veggie inside. Our new favorite, pork/shrimp dumplings in a spicy and...
