Flavor of Himalaya (San Marcos, CA)
How have we not run across this place earlier? It is a genuine original! Himalayan and Nepalese food seems to draw on Indian and Chinese cuisines yet of course has its own unique flavors. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Take your adventurous friends (we did) and explore the menu!
From left to right, top to bottom:
- Chicken Chilli – sweet, almost like General Tso’s
- Lamb Saag – the spinach is not very forward in this dish says Mr A but the Lamb was nice
- Chicken Biryani – intensely flavorful with dark brown fried onions and an interesting sour/citrus flavor (lime?). I will definitely get this again.
- Butter Chicken – competently executed
From left to right:
- Herbal Naan – liberally coated with oregano, this was delicious!
- Chicken Choila – an appetizer. Like a tart chicken salad, almost like a Larb Kai. Red onion, bell pepper, chicken, and ?? many other delicious ingredients I could not identify. I hate bell peppers but I loved them in this.
- Malai Kofta – cheese and potato dumplings in a butter chicken sauce. I didn’t love the dumplings but the sauce was great. This was the only item that I wasn’t a huge fan of.
Not shown:
- Himalayan Special Naan – stuffed with cashews, raisins, almond, coconut, cherries. Not a dessert, slightly sweet, very unique
- Chicken Momo – like Chinese dumplings but with indian spices in the filling. Also recommended.
