Delta Sky Lounge blues

I haven’t posted in a while since the WordPress app started refusing to upload my pictures. But with no real alternative I have to make do with the (broken) tools I have and press on.

On my way to NYC to meet with Mr A and Ms S for our annual Broadway trip. This year it’s Book of Mormon and Hadestown. We made her wait until she was 16 to see Mormon, but she already knows the libretto by heart. And I’m looking forward to our late lunch at Peter Lugers. I’m not looking forward to the weather, I may regret not bringing a raincoat but in the 90deg heat it seemed pointless.

I went ahead and upgraded myself to First Class on Delta. It was pricey. And on a per hour basis probably super ridiculous. But the serenity of the the First Class experience is seriously addictive to this introvert. I love the cocoon that is the First Class Lounge. Free food, free booze, no noise, private restrooms. I flew United International Business Class for years and got very used to the wine, the warmed nuts, the Godiva chocolates, the little white tablecloth for meals. And that one time I flew First Class from Singapore to LA… Cut flowers in a crystal vase, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies…and did you know that in First Class no one asks you to turn off your phone or laptop? Rules are for the little people!

I also spent last weekend alone while my family was elsewhere and it was glorious. I had a new quilt in the hoop and a ton of Jane Austin movies to watch. When I got hungry I called up Grubhub. I didn’t realize just how much I need my alone time. I felt so much more centered and calm during the week. Just ask the people I work with, ha ha.

Grubhub was OK. I didn’t care for the first guy just leaving the bag of food at the door. Could it be because i didn’t want to tip 22pct as the app suggested? Come on!! Why should I tip more than I do in a full service restaurant? Convenient yes, but more costly than the convenience is worth. What’s really crazy is ordering pizza thru Grubhub, it costs $10 more to get what they would have delivered for free.

Looking for to a few days off, it’s been a heck of a summer!

Great movies –

Vanity Fair 2018 TV series (Amazon) – great cast. The Reese Witherspoon version doesn’t look half as interesting. These famous tales don’t need famous actors. 5/5

Sense and Sensibility 1995 Emma Thompson – ultra famous actors distract from the story. Hugh Grant severely underutilized. 4/5

Sense and Sensibility 2008 BBC – it’s the BBC, need I say more. Well done. I was half way through this before I recognized the storyline from the 1995 version. 5/5

Emma – sooo boring. The actors are sleepwalking thru their parts. Not a big fan of Gwyneth. And I had to pay for it! 0/5

And then for the horsey set,

Unbranded (Netflix) – young cowboys trek from Mexico to Canada on mustangs they broke themselves. Also discusses mustang management issues. 5/5

True Appaloosa (Amazon) – are the roots of Appaloosas in Asia or Europe? A 78 year old woman journeys to a remote Kyrgyzstan valley to find out. 5/5

Wild Horse Redemption (Amazon) – compelling story of how inmates find redemption thru breaking mustangs. 5/5

The glass of diet coke was never empty. Note metal knife.
Legs too short to box with God. Until you lay the seat out, then your feet can reach that little shelf.
