Con Pane Rustic Breads & Cafe (San Diego)

Not many people would pay $9 for 3 slices of bread and butter, but I would! And then the plate, heaping with 3 ginormous 1.5″ thick slices of fresh LOAF, arrived. My mouth dropped open.

I am actually not sure if this picture truly portrays the hugeness of the serving.

The bread had clearly just come from the oven. Soft and stretchy inside, crispy outside. And when I ordered three slices of sourdough, she stopped me. “OK, let’s talk about the bread. We have a wonderful rosemary olive oil which is a sourdough base, a French white, an olive loaf… Just so you know what we have.” so I switched out one slice for rosemary olive oil. I really only like sourdough. And I was at first taken aback by the” tiny” tablespoon serving of butter. But that, plus the cream cheese, was actually enough for the 2 slices of bread I was able to finish. Kinda like the oil that lasted for 8 nights.

We will most definitely be coming back here. Plenty of parking and Bird Rock Roasters is just down the way. Their single varietal espresso is quite good.

Note : we returned to Con Pane on Jan 8 2022 only to find it closed due to Covid. Can’t blame them but how disappointing.
