North Italia (One Paseo)
In our further adventures in the after-times return to normalcy, we checked out the patio at North Italia at the new Del Mar mall One Paseo. Even at 11 the whole place was buzzing with people. Note the especially long line at Parakeet – go at opening if you want to catch this one.
North Italia has a huge wrap around patio in a cosy corner of the mall next to one of the fire pit areas. Noise levels were low. The tables facing El Camino Real would have been quite breezy today.
The Brunch menu is served on the weekends but never fear, the menu is full of meats, pastas, and pizzas.
The Lemon Doughnuts were very sweet with a cream filling. The Lemon curd underneath was delicious. The Bread and Good Olive Oil came out (surprisingly) as toast sprinkled with basalmic vinegar, olive oil, and parmesan. The bread itself was very good but a bit over charred.
The entrees were delicious. Mr A’s Pollo Frito was a huge breaded chicken breast – well cooked but heavy for brunch especially with 2 fried eggs on it.
S chose the Chicken Pesto. They ordered Pesto having never tried it before, and they loved it. Fortunately for them, North Italia’s version is outstanding – it tastes homemade, with a garnish of whole pine nuts and fried capers.
I of course had to choose the pizza. Crunchy and not too thin crust, generous and spicy toppings on “The Pig” pizza. I wouldn’t hesitate to get the pizza again.
Happy Anniversary to me and the old man. We’ll be trying Nick’s next door, when it’s just the two of us.
