C2C (corner to corner) blanket
This is one of my favorite crochet patterns. Not only is it fast, it’s quite versatile. The rows are developed diagonally, increasing every row, then reducing every row, to create an overall square shape. I especially like to do a random assortment of harmonious color yarns and make it a “scrap” corner-to-corner blanket. This one is crimson – green – yellow.
Crimson – green – yellow, before the border is added
I use a variety of yarns, primarily acrylic and wool. The chain craft stores tend to focus on pastel, baby color yarns, so more sophisticated colors are found at smaller yarn boutiques.
Sorting yarns into a group of harmonious colors:
I like to use a 3.5mm hook as it creates a denser fabric that doesn’t pull apart as easily when draped over toes and fingers. With a 3.5mm I’ll use yarn weights even up to 4. The weight 4 yarns just create puffier rows but don’t distort the blanket shape, if used sparingly.
A 4mm hook makes for a looser weave, or can create a tight weave with exclusively weight 4 yarns.
Here’s the last 4 c2c blankets I’ve made (not including the one above). High contrast color ways are attractive, and also low contrast color ways can also work.
