Sunday 12/29/19, London

We landed at 930am in London to find that even the horses in the fields had jackets on. It would be a cold but clear New Years week in Western Europe.

A quick roast beef and roast chicken lunch at Marquis Cornwallis. Chicken in Europe is so succulent compared to American chicken. Why is that? And why are pubs so cool? I’ll tell you why. Because it’s nice to have some simple food with your adult beverage, and it’s nice to be able to bring your kids. Bars are such dens of iniquity in America, unless it’s a hotel bar.

We checked out the Globe theater (so we could go to the gift shoppe).

We love very tall buildings so a visit to the Shard was in order. It was quite cold on the open platform. Timing is everything tho. The beautiful orange glow was about 30 min before sunset but the lights wouldn’t be up until about 30 min after sunset. We ended up arriving 60 minutes before sunset and due to the cold weather (and Mom’s sore hip), a 90 minute visit was just unbearable this time. If you are in London on a clear day, this is really recommended, the pictures will be quite good. Recommend the Skip the Line ticket, it does save at least half an hour.

We had to fulfill some shopping urges so off to Zara, Primark, and M&S we went. So mobbed due to the after Christmas sales, but fantastic selection of coats and jackets if you fancy looking a bit more continental!
