Travels by Narrowboat (Amazon Prime) – the virtues of slow living
I discovered this show a few weeks ago on Amazon Prime and I quickly got hooked. Kevin’s narration is so raw, honest, and genuine. There is something hypnotic and addictive about watching the English canal miles chug by, listening to chug chug chug of the boats tiny motor. Kevin has a great eye for detail and for wildlife that makes it seem like you’re right there with him in the bucolic and stunningly beautiful English countryside. https://www.amazon.com/Travels-by-Narrowboat/dp/B07TYGS6BX
Reminds me of why I love kayaking. Kayaking forces you to boil your life down to its very essence – boat, paddle, and car key. And that’s it. It’s just you and the water. No baggage. And you’re free to go wherever you like. Like camping or RVing, it’s refreshing to simplify your life back to the basics. Somewhere to sleep, a tiny kitchen to cook yourself a meal, and the whole day to go adventuring. Why can’t life just be like this? I simply cannot imagine retiring to a house and just waking up in it every day with nothing to do. But this kind of voyaging taps something very primeval in us. It’s what drove early humans out of Africa 2 million years ago, to explore and expand and see what’s around the next bend. It’s what driving millions of Baby Boomer RVers around the American backcountry. I saw it in my dad with his crazy 1970’s camper shell. I see it in Kevin and he captures it masterfully, tunnel by tunnel, lock by lock.
Come along for the ride, you will not be able to stop watching.
