New York eating 2019
Natsumi Japanese restaurant. On Times Square and only 2 dollar signs which was shocking but then perhaps unsurprisingly the food was below average.
Xi’an Fine Foods. Consistently excellent. I still enjoyed my #9 Pork Zha Jiang noodles. The noodles are definitely on the thicker side, I wish they were thinner. But the ground pork in its spicy sauce was outstanding. Mr A liked his extra spicy Spicy and Tingly Beef noodles. Ms S enjoyed her pork noodle soup.
Carve Unique Sandwiches. Our go to for a quick breakfast, it has all the iconic New York breakfasts – bagels, cheesecake, and pizza. (And smoothies for Ms S.) And a bunch of McDonald’s-like breakfast platters on oval Styrofoam plates – scrambled eggs with wheat toast, croissant egg ham and cheese sandwiches. The guy’s got all his sons working there taking orders, his 23 yr old, 15 year old, and his 12 year old. I’ll miss not going there tomorrow.
Chelsea Market. What every other food hall wishes it could be. Dozens of top notch eateries in a vaguely steampunk/birth of New York theme. Los Tacos was everything these Angelenos could want and Very Fresh Noodles was not bad. But I will never get over paying $2 for a single biscuit from Sarahbeth’s.
Ess-a-bagel. Crunchy, chewy, salty, and outstanding lox. Worth the 30+ min wait.
Peter Luger. Prepare yourself by googling the copious reviews. Bring cash or debit card; focus on the meat; but don’t miss the bacon or the desserts especially if you are a whipped cream expert!
