Gallaghers Steakhouse (New York)
As far as I’m concerned, the perfect dinner.
A top notch Old Fashioned – nice and sweet and citrusy – and a Joel Gott cabernet. Altho I think I’m going to have to stop mixing my liquors.
The bread basket had a nice gingerbread in it as well as some fine whole grain breads. The butter was very rich – I think it was European butter like Kerrygold, one of my favorites.
The Ceasar salad was very very good. It tasted just a bit wilted like they’d tossed it 2 hrs ago. But the dressing was generous and delicious. Could have made a meal off the salad and the bread alone (and the drinks).
I enjoyed my 14 oz filet with mushroom garlic butter ($2). They actually cooked it medium well without burning it. This is a lost art, my friends. Rich beefy flavor (for a filet). I looked over and Ms S had polished off her 14oz filet in record time.
Shout out for the sides – the fresh corn was delicious.
And the Lyonnaise potatoes were very good, although not as casserole as they should have been:
We had seen the cheesecake go by already so we knew it would be ours. I’m glad we waited past Katz’s and past Juniors.
Room temperature for perfect flavor and texture. Berries not too mushy. Discrete spoonful of panna cotta (sorry Ms S, not ice cream). Worth the $12.
I would love to try the chocolate cake or key lime pie here.
Wonderful attentive old school service. Our guy was 80 years old if he was a day. Elbow your way past the tourists to get in here! On 49th in the theater district. Just down from the huge Goliath billboard.
You can see the menu prices if you zoom in.
